Open Meadow Artwork on Display at Two Local Businesses
Monday May 18, 2009

Two more exhibits of Open Meadow student artwork are going up this week, following another outstanding Annual Student Art Show which was held on May 14th.  The two new exhibits feature work created by Open Meadow Middle School students.

Atomic Pizza on N. Killingsworth generously offered its wall space to students from our Step Up class, a dyanmic after-school group which focuses on the transition from middle school to high school.  This year they completed a project with the Oregon youth arts organization Caldera, sharpening their photography skills.  The results of the collaboration are on display and for sale, May 15 - June 8.  Proceeds will benefit ongoing student activities.

On Thursday, May 21st a month-long show will open at New Seasons Market on N. Interstate.  The show, entitled Reflections: Self & Surroundings, will be on display in the New Seasons Cafe Gallery through June 30th.  This work was created in collaboration with the Media, Arts & Technology Institute (MATI) which gave staff support for classes in photography and 3-D animation.  The project was completed with the help of a professional photographer, a professional animation artist, and a committed group of volunteers from MATI who helped students weave together their haiku poems and photographic images into creative, personal expressions.  An opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 21st from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at the New Seasons Cafe Gallery.

Open Meadow would like to thank Atomic Pizza and New Seasons Market for hosting student artwork; the Harvest Foundation, the Hoover Family Foundation, Albina Rotary and The Skanner for supporting the Reflections project; and our project partners MATI and Caldera.
